PROFILE to .xyz

Purpose

To enable the creation of ground models from one or more Ordnance Survey Land-Form PROFILE files by first converting them to a simple .xyz format. Land-Form PROFILE data is a 10 metre grid covering 5,000 x 5,000 metres and therefore contains 251,001 points.

Operation

Select an .ntf file and the data is converted into an .xyz format (original file name maintained but .xyz).

This is often used for ZTV work and a number of the .xyz files are added together using menu item File utilities, .xyz Co-ordinate files, Merge and a model is made from the combined file using the Gridding method. A model can be made directly from just one .xyz file converted from PROFILE data by Ground Modelling, Create Model, from .xyz file Square grid data.

If the data is required in the drawing use menu item File utilities, .txt Co-ordinate files, Input and to select the .xyz file enter  *.*  at File name in the dialogue. Make sure the input is “Draw all as 3D Points”.
