Balance no. of vertices

Previous pageReturn to chapter overviewNext page

Purpose

To increase or decrease the number of vertices of 3D Polylines. Increasing happens where vertices are very far apart and decreasing where they are close. Typical use is to help increase the speed of creating a ground model from drawings including 3D Polylines with large numbers of vertices or to add vertices to a Polyline representing a large building footprint for example. Triangle sides will respect the large number of "line elements" as break lines (may be of very short length) and by setting an appropriate interval (say 5 or 10 metres) this "tuning" will reduce the size of the data but will loose some resolution as vertices will be lost. This also works with 2D Polylines.

Operation

Select 3D Polylines. Enter the "Maximum distance between vertices". The tolerances refer to the change or deflection moving along the vertices and the greater the value the more vertices will be lost. Default values should be OK for typical use.
