Draw Alignment

Previous pageReturn to chapter overviewNext page

Purpose

To draw a 2D Polyline representing the vertical alignment of a road in typical use but note that the Polyline may also represent :-

Design section through a landfill or quarry.

 Sewer.

 Gas pipeline.

 Water supply pipeline etc.

The 2D Polyline should always be drawn from left to right and care should be taken that the start and end are exactly the start and end of the existing section for most applications. In most cases the 2D Polyline is the result of a sequence that would include Section menu items such as Enquire and fix Gradient of Line. Some of the Vertical menu items following this one will help with constructing vertical curves etc. but for some purposes this is a very quick and direct way to just draw the alignment.

Operation

Return to accept the default layer or enter alternative. This is now the CAD Pline command so pick a point to define the start and subsequent vertices using appropriate object snap modes. The alignment may have only straight elements or more typically a combination of line and arc elements within the 2D Polyline. It is OK to curve Fit the Polyline but not to Spline.
